SEOUL -- K-pop band BTS' new album, "MAP OF THE SOUL: PERSONA", released in March, is the most sold physical album in the United States, according to a mid-year album sales report.

"Mid-Year Report for 2019" released by Neilsen Music, the music sales measurement division of global market research firm Nielsen, on Thursday showed that MAP OF THE SOUL: PERSONA was the top-selling physical album in the U.S. with 312,000 units between January 4 and June 20.

The new BTS album stood fourth in the ranking of top album sales, including physical and digital albums, with 343,000 units. American singer Ariana Grande's "Thank U, Next" took the top spot with 1,552,800 units.

BTS came third in the ranking of Top 5 Genre Artists in the Pop category. The ranking is measured based on album sales, on-demand audio streaming and other factors which Nielsen counts as an album being sold.
