SEOUL --Han Hyo-joo, a popular South Korean actress, filed lawsuits against 33 cyber bullies for spreading malicious rumors which claimed that the 32-year-old was involved in a sex and drug scandal over Seungri, a disgraced BIGBANG member.

Last week, an investigative TV program reported that an actress in her 30s had shown "abnormal activities" like a drugged person during a cosmetics brand launching event at Burning Sun, a dance and music club associated with Seungri. The program did not reveal any names, but cyber bullies spread rumors that it was Han.

Han's lawyer said in a statement Friday that it filed lawsuits against 33 cyber bullies for seriously hurting her reputation, insisting the actress was not present at the event at Burning Sun. "We will continue to take strong legal action against those who intentionally spread false rumors or maliciously defame the actress," the lawyer said.

Seungri, who was well known as a successful entrepreneur, got caught up in a disastrous situation that cost him his entertainment career when a police investigation revealed drug trafficking by Burning Sun employees and a sex scandal that forced the departure of some celebrities from South Korea's music community.

Jung Joon-young, a singer-songwriter, was arrested on charges of sharing illegally filmed sex video files on social media group chat rooms with Seungri and other artists.
