SEOUL -- LG Electronics will release its new smartphone equipped with a 5G modem, V50 ThinQ, this week on its home turf after its initial rollout in April was put off due to complaints about the service quality of 5G mobile networks and the delayed supply of Qualcomm's modems.

LG's new phone, priced at 1.199 won ($1,024) is available on May 10 in South Korea. By the end of June, consumers will be given a free dual-screen cover case with an additional 6.2-inch display that can be used independently. V50 features a 6.4-inch organic light emitting diode (OLED) display and Qualcomm's Snapdragon 855 Mobile chipset.

Originally, V50 ThinQ was to be released on April 19, but LG opted for intentional delays. Using Samsung Electronics' new smartphones, South Korea started providing 5G services for ordinary consumers on April 4, but mobile carriers have been fraught with complaints among 5G users about service quality such as a lack of coverage and poor connection.

Qualcomm's 5G modems have also come late.
