SEOUL -- More than two million copies of K-pop band BTS' new album, "MAP OF THE SOUL : PERSONA", were sold during the first week of release.
According to Hanteo Chart, a South Korean album sales chart based on sales at offline music stores, 2,130,480 copies of the new album were sold between April 12 and 18. BTS broke its own record, which was set in May 2018 when it sold 1,003,524 copies of "LOVE YOURSELF: TEAR".
"MAP OF THE SOUL : PERSONA" topped iTunes albums chart in 86 countries immediately after the album was released. It is set to top Billboard's weekly chart ranking the 200 most popular albums in the United States. "Boy With Luv", the new album's title song, has also gained popularity online, garnering more than 162 million views on YouTube in just seven days.
