SEOUL -- Roy Kim, who was summoned by police for questioning on suspicion of uploading explicit photographs onto a social media group chat room, apologized as he appeared at a police station in Seoul.

"I am dearly sorry for disturbing the hearts of fans, family members and other people who gave me support," the 25-year-old singer told reporters Wednesday. "I will cooperate in the investigation earnestly," he said.

Kim is suspected of uploading explicit photographs on a social media messenger group chat and sharing them with other people including Jung Joon-young, a 30-year-old singer jailed for playing a key role in a sex video scandal.

Kim, a student at Georgetown University who alternates between attending school in the United States and pursuing his music career in South Korea, secretly returned home in an early morning flight from New York on Tuesday to avoid reporters and unwanted attention.

Kim debuted when he won the fourth season of "Superstar K", a popular cable TV music audition show, in 2012. He and Jung became friends by appearing together in the audition show. Jung has been arrested on charges of secretly filming and uploading sex-related videos.

Kim is the fifth singer to get implicated in the sex video scandal which has disgraced K-pop stars including CNBLUE's Lee Jong-hyun, FT ISLAND's Choi Jong-hoon and Seungri who was expelled from BIGBANG.
