SEOUL -- For the first time in the world, Kolmar Korea, a beauty and pharmaceutical company, has used 3D printing technology to develop basic cosmetics products with skincare cream printed on high concentration essence.

Kolmar said Tuesday that cosmetics of two different formulations -- essence and cream -- were put together in one container to create a product that maximizes the moisturizing effect, through a two-year strategic alliance with a 3D printer specialist.

The company said it would apply 3D printing technology to color cosmetics such as lipstick and compact powder and produce customized products.

The 3D printing method is to design the desired shape by precisely stacking the cream with a special nozzle in the high viscosity essence. Kolmar said it can express various shapes and colors with cosmetic ingredients, without producing a separate mold. Differentiated designs are possible because two kinds of products built together in a container can maintain their shape and efficacy.
