SEOUL -- South Korea's top telecom company KT broadcast K-pop boy band Wanna One's concert using 5G technology and ultra-high definition (UHD) video cameras as it steps up preparations for the launch of 5G commercial service for smatphone users in March.

Waving light sticks, fans chanted slogans such as "We will meet again!" and shed tears at Seoul's Gocheok Stadium on Sunday to bid farewell to the project boy band involving 11 survivors of "Produce 101 Season 2", a cable TV music audition survival show.

After 16 months of successful activities, the project band disbanded with members pursuing their own careers. "Will not forget our spring day. All I Wanna do WANNA ONE," the band said in the last message posted on its website.

"Running so many roads together, we've done well and I think it'll be better tomorrow," Kang Daniel said through his Instagram post.

KT delivered the live footage of the concert through its cable and mobile TV channels using its commercial 5G network. The telecom company used ultra-high definition (UHD) 4K video cameras and compact cameras installed with wireless communication modules to broadcast UHD video from the stadium.

It is common to use 4G networks to broadcast HD video, but 5G networks, at least ten times faster than the previous mobile network, is ideal for transferring large data files such as UHD video. KT and other South Korean mobile carriers commercialized 5G networks for the first time in the world last month.
