SEOUL -- "Extreme Job", a comedy film, has topped South Korea's box-office, garnering more than three million moviegoers in just five days of its opening.  Such popularity is rare in South Korea's movie scene as the box-office is mainly dominated by blockbuster films.

The comedy film depicts a story about a team of undercover detectives opening a fried chicken store for a drug-bust operation. The detectives try to catch drug criminals, but their store receives unexpected attention from gourmets for its tasty fried chicken.

Data released by the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) showed that 3,137,896 people have watched Extreme Job for five days from January 23. The film broke the three million mark five days faster than "Miracle in Cell No.7" (2012), the highest-grossing comedy film in South Korea's box-office.

"Extreme Job is likely to garner even more moviegoers during the Chinese Lunar New Year holiday season, which comes on the first week of February," pop-culture critic Kim Kyo-seok told Aju News. He said the timing was right to open the film because there are no rival films at the moment.
