LAS VEGAS -- xDM, a new location and mobility-based intelligence platform developed by the research and development arm of South Korea's largest web portal Naver, will be applied to Airstar, a guiding robot produced by LG Electronics.

Naver Labs said it signed an agreement with LG Electronics on the joint development of robotics technology at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Airstar will be installed with xDM, which works with smartphone cameras without GPS to provide indoor directions.

"We will cooperate with LG Electronics to expedite the development of living environment intelligence technology," Seok Sang-ok, who heads Naver Labs' robotics team, said in a statement.

In October last year, Incheon International Airport, South Korea's main gateway, signed a deal with Naver to introduce xDM. If passengers enter flight information on Naver's smartphone maps, indoor route information will be provided to guide them to the aircraft gate.

At CES, Naver demonstrated AMBIDEX, a cable-driven robot arm controlled remotely over a 5G wireless link, and AROUND G, a plant for autonomous guide robots that provide guidance in large indoor spaces and offers intuitive information through AR navigation by using xDM.
