LAS VEGAS -- SK Telecom CEO Park Jung-ho acclaimed Samsung Electronics' undisclosed foldable smartphone as a wonderful device suitable for media and content in the era of   5G mobile communication after he was given a special chance to look at a prototype at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

Samsung promised to release a foldable phone in the first half of this year. Market watchers expect the world's largest smartphone maker to release its Galaxy foldable phone in March when South Korean mobile carriers launch full 5G commercial service for ordinary clients.

Park said he was allowed to inspect Samsung's foldable phone when the company opened its CES booth. Samsung has said the upcoming foldable smartphone would fold inward with its 7.4-inch screen being reduced to 4.6-inch.

"It was a very good product," he told reporters, adding he made an impromptu offer to launch a 5G service with foldable phones. He said Samsung's foldable phone was good for playing games and streaming media. "I think the 5G era will start with media."
