SEOUL -- Samsung SDI, a top battery maker in South Korea, will provide battery packs for Harley Davidson's first electric motorcycle to be released in August this year.
Samsung SDI said in a statement that it has collaborated with the American premium motorcycle maker for about four years since 2014 to launch an electric motorcycle called LiveWire. The motorcycle maker has carried out a series of test rides to receive feedback from consumers.
Harley Davidson, well known for cruiser motorcycles embedded with traditional values, is an iconic company that leads the global motorcycle market.
By using a sturdy and reliable battery pack, LiveWire can run for up about 177 kilometers (110 miles) and reach the velocity of 100 kilometers per hour in 3.5 seconds. LiveWire has strong connectivity features such as its ability to track down other riders using GPS and sharing information between motorcycles and riders.
The global electric motorcycle market is consistently growing at an annual average growth rate of 7.3 percent to reach an estimated $13.8 billion by 2025, according to Indo-based market research firm Prescient & Strategic Intelligence.
