SEOUL -- Hyundai Motor will release some 7,000 units of "Kona Iron Man Special Edition," the limited special model of the company's compact sport utility vehicle (SUV), globally in January next year.

The South Korean carmaker said in a statement Thursday that 1,700 units of the Hyundai-Marvel crossover compact SUV would be sold at home. For global promotion, the company will collaborate with YG Entertainment, South Korea's largest entertainment agency.

Marvel, an American entertainment company owned by Walt Disney, produces media contents such as comic books, films, TV dramas featuring a lineup of superheroes and villains. Iron Man is a Marvel superhero portrayed in a series of hit films starring Robert Downy Jr.

The Iron Man concept SUV was unveiled at the "2018 San Diego Comic-Con", one of world's largest annual comic book and hobby fair, in July this year. Designers from Hyundai and Marvel have worked together to create the dark gray-colored SUV with points in red to resemble the modern version of the Iron Man suit.

The special edition of Kona will come with a 1.6 gasoline turbo engine and a dual-clutch transmission (DCT).
