SEOUL -- Lufthansa Technik AG of Germany and LG Electronics of South Korea will join forces to provide new air travel experiences by combining their technologies to develop new electronic systems in the aircraft cabin.

The two companies said in a joint statement that they would launch a joint venture, based in Hamburg, Germany, in the first half of 2019. The Germany company provides maintenance, completions, repair, and overhaul services for aircraft, while LG is a global player in the premium organic light-emitting diode (OLED) TVs.

The two companies said they would develop new systems in the aircraft cabin by combining LG's flexible OLED display technology with Lufthansa's aviation business capability to create new markets for onboard aircraft applications such as welcome board screens and interior linings.

"We are very excited to be joining hands with Lufthansa Technik to expand the reach of LG's innovative consumer electronic technologies to commercial aircraft," Kwon Soon-hwang, president of LG's business-to-business division, was quoted as saying.
