SEOUL -- CJ ENM, a top entertainment and mass media company in South Korea, launched its genre label, 413 Pictures, which benchmarked New Line Cinema, an American producer and distributor of thrillers and horror flicks, to target American and foreign moviegoers.

The company said Monday that English language genre films produced abroad would be released under the new banner 413, a combination of 4 and 13, which are considered unlucky in the East and West respectively.

"With innovative planning capabilities, horror and thriller films can spread content around the world at a relatively low cost through Hollywood," CJ ENM's international division head Jerry Ko said, vowing to create movies with a unique view of the Asian region.

The first films to be produced and released under the 413 Pictures label in the U.S. will be the remakes of "Hide and Seek," a 2013 hit South Korean thriller directed by Huh Jung, and "The Housemaid," a 2016 adaptation of Vietnam's horror film directed by Derek Nguyen which explores racial and social themes with elements of romance during Vietnam's postwar era.

Hide and Seek directed by Joel David Moore will go into production in October. The Housemaid will go into production next year.

CJ has been the key distributor of K-pop contents in Asia, making local-language films in Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. It new local titles in the region include "Portrait of a Beauty," a Thai horror film. CJ ENM was launched as a new company in July by merging CJ O Shopping and CJ E&M, to compete with global contents providers.
