SEOUL -- A rare scene took place in the southeastern city of Daegu during a morning rush hour Thursday when people stepped out of their cars to pick up hundreds of banknotes flying out of a car driven by a middle-aged woman.

Pedestrians reported to police stations that the woman riding a black sedan scattered large-denominated bills in the center of Daegu, some 238 kilometers (147 miles) southeast of Seoul. Luckily, most of the bills were collected by conscientious citizens and handed over to authorities.

The police agency in Daegu told reporters on Friday that they tracked down the black sedan by analyzing CCTV footage and talked with the mother of the money scatter in an attempt to return some15.8 million won worth of collected bills.

The mother told police that the money was her daughter's savings for a house rent but could not give an exact reason. People who took bills home will not be punished if the woman wanted to give up her money.
