SEOUL -- Five South Korean women were deported from Singapore after they were arrested for staging a protest near a hotel where North Korean leader Kim Jong-un stayed before his summit with U.S. President Donald Trump, according to a local media on Thursday.

It was a rare incident in Singapore as its government strictly regulates assemblies and demonstrations in restricted areas under the Public Order Act.

The five were deported on Wednesday, TODAY, a Singaporean media, reported, adding they were arrested in front of St. Regis Singapore Hotel designated as one of the "Enhanced Security Special Event Areas" at 9:10 p.m. (1310 GMT) on Monday, a day before the summit was held.

The newspaper quoted police as saying that when they tried to stop the protest, the women got aggressive, started to shout, "struggled" and were "uncooperative" during their arrest. Details such as identities and the purpose of their protest were not disclosed.
