SEOUL -- CJ E&M, the key distributor and exporter of Hallyu (Korean cultural wave) in Asia, has forged an alliance with VOOZ, a South Korean character business company, to utilize its cartoon series for marketing and expanding its business abroad.

Pucca, created in 1999, is the name of an animation which stars cute characters created by VOOZ. Along with Pororo, an animated series for children, Pucca is one of the most popular Hallyu characters in France, China, Japan and Southeast Asia. VOOZ said on its website that it has forged "Global Master Licensee" deals with top global companies such as Benetton, Walt Disney and Warner Brothers.

CJ E&M said in a statement Wednesday that a new animation series starring Pucca's characters would be released soon. VOOZ will collaborate with "Olivecon 2018", an annual food and lifestyle exhibition in Seoul this week, by inviting a popular baker to create desserts in shapes of Pucca characters.

Pucca characters will become a vital tool for CJ E&M, which has accelerated its foray into Southeast Asia by opening a TV station specialized in Korean movies in Singapore and a TV channel dedicated to Hallyu contents in Malaysia and Vietnam. CJ E&M will also provide its services through other contents platforms.
