SEOUL, Feb. 21 (Aju News) --  Thanks to a super-fast mobile network developed by South Korea's top telecom company, global gamers who enjoy playing VR games will meet a whole new gaming environment without the hassle of strewn out cables and worries of tripping over them.

The world's first 5G-connected wireless virtual reality game will be showcased at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) to be held in Barcelona on February 26.

KT said in a statement Wednesday that it would demonstrate "Special Force VR", a 5G-connected multiplayer shooter game co-developed with South Korean game developer Dragonfly. The company said its "VR walkthrough" technology which works as a wireless bridge between VR headsets and computers.

Games using VR headsets have poured into the market but they have not been attractive because they needed to be connected to a computer or a gaming console. Hanging cables limited the movements of gamers and sometimes became dangerous as people tripped on them.

To tackle such problems, some companies have come up with WiFi-connected wireless VR headsets. Yet gamers complained about latency as video and sound output delivered to them were one tempo slower than intended because of slow speed.

Unlike many other high-performance VR headsets, KT's head-mounted display uses a smartphone. KT claims it's VR Walkthrough technology has taken care of such problems. The company's new generation mobile network is about 10 times faster than the 4G LTE (fourth-generation Long Term Evolution) network and is capable of transferring 3GB of data per second with no latency.

The telecom giant also used "Anti Juddering" to take care of dizziness, a symptom which many VR gamers experience. VR headsets sometimes cause dizziness and nausea because their display shakes violently as a gamer moves around.

KT has developed 5G services using telecom node devices co-developed with Nokia and Ericsson to make their technology standardized globally.
