Samsung ranked sixth in 2017 global brand rankings

South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics was ranked sixth in the Best Global Brands 2017 Rankings released by Interbrand, a U.S. market research company.

The market researcher said in its annual report that Samsung stood sixth in global rankings with a brand value of 56.2 billion US dollars, up nine percent from last year's. Apple topped the list with a brand value of $79.9 billion, up three percent from a year ago.

Facebook was the brand which had the largest increase in its brand value estimated at $48.1 billion, up 48 percent.

Albeit its brand ranking, Samsung retained its status as the world's top-selling smartphone maker for shipping 79 million smartphones in the second quarter of 2017, according to the market analyst company, Canalyst. Apple was second with 40.7 million, followed by China's Huawei with 38 million.
