Kim Ki-duk, an award-winning filmmaker noted for his idiosyncratic art-house cinematic works, faces an investigation by state prosecutors over allegations that he had harassed or insulted an actress while shooting a movie unveiled in 2013.

The investigation is based on a complaint filed by an unidentified actress who accused Kim, 57, of verbal abuse and insults, according to Yonhap News Agency.

Other news outlets reported that Kim rebutted claims that the 41-year-old actress quit at the initial stage of filming and was replaced with another actress after she was slapped in the face and forced to shoot nude takes without prior consent.

Kim, who is one of the most important contemporary Asian film directors, has received a number of awards from the Berlin, Venice and Cannes festivals, including Golden Lion at the Venice International Film Festival in 2012 for "Pieta".

In 2013, Kim released three movies including "Moebius", which was screened out of competition at the 70th Venice International Film Festival. It was initially banned in South Korea before a state watchdog changed the rating.
