A traditional cult follower has been arrested for dumping 13 tons of amputated animals into a water conservation zone in Seoul for rituals to make sacrificial offerings to the gods of heaven and earth, prosecutors said Friday.
The 51-year-old man surnamed Lee was charged with violating a law on protection of drinking water resource. He was accused of scattering the amputated bodies of pigs and cows in a protected area along the Han river which flows through Seoul.
The river's upper side has been designated as a water conservation zone to provide drinking water to Seoul residents. Prosecutors said Lee's rite was performed for a year from last October, sacrificing 78 pigs cut into four pieces and 20 cows cut into six pieces.
