A 29-year-old South Korean woman has jumped off a bungee tower into a lake without a safety cord, but she was rescued, sustaining slight injuries.

The incident took place at Gangchon, a resort area 65 kilometers (40 miles) northeast of Seoul on September 14. The bungee cord was not secured when the woman surnamed Yoo jumped, leaving her helplessly freefalling 43 meters (141 feet) into a five meters deep lake below.

"I did not feel any recoil and fell straight into the water below," Yoo told police. "The instructor did not attach the bungee cord to a safety hook but gave me a signal to jump."

The bungee company told police: "The cord was securely attached to the safety hook, but it got loose after the first recoil." But the claim turned out to be a lie after police investigated a footage that showed Yoo falling with the bungee cord fluttering in the air after her.

The horrific scene was filmed by Yoo's friend and was uploaded onto YouTube. A YouTuber named "Rodenggi" wrote: "Yoo gained consciousness three days later at a hospital, but the bungee company said they have done nothing wrong. My friend could have been killed but no one was responsible."

A bungee company employee was charged with professional negligence.
