Prosecutors sought a seven-year jail term Wednesday against a 41-year-old wife for locking and binding her husband with plastic tape in a house for 29 hours to rape him.
The wife surnamed Shim has been indicted for forcing her husband to have sex with her in May last year after he asked for a divorce. It was South Korea's first legal case in which a wife has been charged with marital rape. The Supreme Court recognized spousal rape as a crime in May 2013.
At Wednesday's hearing, the wife admitted she locked her husband but refused to accept rape charges insisting she had secured prior consent to have sex.
Prosecutors said Shim should get harsh punishment because she never regretted her criminal activity. At the time, a police station allegedly received the husband's urgent call for help.
The wife was accused of plotting to cook up testimony in preparation for a divorce suit. The verdict will come on September 9.
