A 27-year-old North Korea man was rescued by a South Korean fishing boat Wednesday off a front-line island in the Yellow Sea while drifting aboard a styrofoam floater, a press report said.

The man was spotted by a South Korean soldier and picked by a fishing boat near Yeonpyeong Island south of the maritime border at around 7:15 am (22:15 GMT), Yonhap News agency said.

He was sent to the island for questioning by security authorities to see if he tried to defect or strayed into South Korean territory, Yonhap said.

There have been occasional defections through the Yellow Sea. On August 7, a South Korean coastguard vessel rescued three North Korean defectors aboard a small boat off the west coast of Incheon. They have been under questioning by intelligence authorities.
