South Korean actor Uhm Tae-woong has been sued for sexually assaulting a massage parlor employee who was in detention on fraud charges, police said Tuesday.

A complaint was filed with prosecutors last month when the woman was sent to a detention house for trial on fraud charges. Police said they launched an investigation this week.  The massage parlor was located in Bundang south of Seoul.

It's not clear if the massage parlor was a place providing professional massage services or an illegal sex shop in which unskilled masseurs sell sex. Illegal brothels disguised as massage parlors are common in South Korea and many other countries.

Uhm's management agency, Keyeast Co., said it was aware of the suit but did not elaborate on it.

As the brother of popular singer-actress Uhm Jung-hwa, the 42-year-old made his acting debut in 1998. After years of small roles and work in one-act dramas, he began to gain recognition after his villainous turn in the romantic comedy Delightful Girl Choon-Hyang.

In 2005, he made his breakthrough in the critically acclaimed Resurrection, followed by another revenge-themed series The Devil in 2007. Since then, he has starred in diverse leading roles on film and television, notably in Forever the Moment (2008), Cyrano Agency (2010), and Man from the Equator (2012).

Uhm's case was reported weeks after police arrested a woman who sued disgraced K-pop star Yoochun of raping her in the bathroom of a private membership bar. She was accused of committing calumny and trying to blackmail Yoochun of his money.

Yoochun has been cleared of rape allegations but he faces charges of buying sex. He was also accused of fraud because he did not keep his promise to give money after having sex.
