Intelligent robots will roam through Incheon International Airport, South Korea's main gateway west of Seoul, guiding passengers or cleaning the terminal under a project to provide "smart" services for passengers.

Incheon has been rated the world's best, cleanest, and best international transit airport which has a golf course, spa, private sleeping rooms, a casino, indoor gardens and a museum. It has also earned good marks for its fast service in customs processing.

But the airport is not complacent and hopes to provide "smart" services with robots and advanced information and communications technology. Airport officials hope to test-run robots probably this year under a contract signed on Friday with South Korea's LG Electronics.

Basically, robots developed by LG will be used for baggage processing, cleaning, and guiding. Some can speak in multiple languages and answer customer queries, moving through crowded lobbies and lounges.

In the future, the airport plans to deploy robots capable of checking security, issuing boarding passes and serving food and drinks in lounges.
