Intel, one of the world's largest chipmaker, introduced Tuesday the company's first 10-core desktop CPU at Computex.

The "Core i7-6950X Extreme Edition" is Intel's 10-core first desktop CPU. The company had released 10-core CPUs for servers and enterprises in 2011. According to Intel, the new 10-core CPU which runs at 3GHz (3.5GHz when boosted) featuring Intel's Turbo Boost 3.0 technology, will cost 1,723 US dollars.

Although the new 10-core CPU is very pricey, considering that quad-core i7 6700K CPU model costs 399 dollars, Intel claims the 10-core CPU is twice as fast in 3D rendering than the company's latest generation of i7 CPU. Also, the new CPU is 65% percent faster when editing a 4K video, making the 10-core CPU ideal for heavy rendering and video editing tasks.

Other than the 10-core CPU, Intel is also to release 8-core (i7 6900K for 10,89 dollars) and 6-core (i7 6850K, 617 dollars and i7 6800K, 434 dollars) models.
