Samsung electronics started mass production of its 512GB ball grid array (BGA) non-volatile memory express (NVMe) PCIe solid state drive Tuesday, the company announced.
512GB NVMe SSD by Samsung is the industry's first, featuring smaller size and faster performance than previous storage devices. The new SSD by Samsung is only 20 millimeters in width, 16 millimeters in height, and only 1.5 millimeters thick. The size of the SSD is about one hundredth of a 2.5 inch sized SSD or hard drive, allowing design flexibility to device manufacturers.
The new SSD is unique by its BGA features. Conventional SSDs only offer its users with storage ability, but Samsung's new SSD features NAND flash, DRAM, and a controller.

"The introduction of this small-scale SSD will help global PC companies to make timely launches of slimmer, more stylish computing devices, while offering consumers a more satisfactory computing environment." Said the company's vice president, Lee Jung-bae,.
Also, Samsung's new SSD is faster than its older brothers. According to Samsung's press releases, the NVMe SSD offers over 6 gigabytes per second data connection and read / write speeds up to 1,500 megabytes per second.
