Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare has lowered Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) alert level to its lowest, Tuesday.

MERS patients were first recognized in Korea last May. The disease infected a total of 187 people in South Korea. 38 people died during treatment. The last patient died last Wednesday after fighting for his life for 6 months.

According to the ministry, the alert level was lowered to “Blue” from “Yellow”. The decision was made after predicting that there will be no more MERS-infected cases breaking out in the country.

However, the ministry urged the public not to neglect awareness of the disease. MERS patients are still reported in Middle East countries and MERS could spread again in Korea if attention is not paid.
