Goyang City had installed “Stop Smoking Bells” in Non-smoking areas such as bus stops and parks. The City announced on Sunday.

Total of 28 bells are installed in 12 places. If a smoker is found, anyone can warn them by pressing the Stop Smoking Bells, and the bell would sound a voice warning to the smoker notifying them to stop smoking.

“The bells are installed in Hwajung Station Square, bus stops, parks. If a person is caught smoking in those areas, they could be sentenced to a fine of KR\ 50,000.” A Goyang City official said.

The Korean government is very keen to reduce the number of smokers and effects of second-hand smoking by increasing non-smoking zone. Starting from 2015, all restaurants and cafes are banned of smoking, along with public areas such as expressway service areas and sports related facilities.
