A jet fighter of unknown nationality was shot down by Turkey’s F-16 jet fighter near the Syrian border after it violated Turkey’s airspace, Tuesday.

According to a video footage by a private broadcaster Haberturk TV, the jet fighter was shot down in flames and crashed into a woodland area. Haberturk TV said the area is known as “Turkmen Mountain” located in northern Syria near the Turkish border.

Fortunately, two pilots ejected before the warplane turned into a fireball and were seen landing with their parachutes.

A Turkish military has confirmed the engagement and claimed that the foreign aircraft was warned of its airspace violations several times before it was shot down.

Information about the downed aircraft is not known, Haberturk TV who are well aware of the situations regarding the Syrian border suspects the jet fighter as a Russian warplane SU-24. Turkey had shot down a Russian Mig-29 in October for violating its airspace.

According to Haberturk TV, the Turkish government is consulting its NATO allies about the situation.
