A recent study suggested that teenagers who are addicted to online social media are more likely to suffer from depression and anxiety.

The research was conducted by experts from the University of Glasgow, who surveyed 467 students, aged 11 to 17, on the topic of their social networking habits, especially during night-time.

The questionnaires were followed up by further tests which analyzed the respondents' self-esteem levels, overall mental health, anxiety and depression symptoms and emotional attachment to social media.

Scientists also evaluated the participants' quality of sleep in order to determine if there was indeed a connection between time spent on online networking and disruption of daily rhythms of teenagers.

They suggested families implement the rule of "digital sunset" to let everyone stay away from social media at night and sleep well.
