'Assassination' to open in China Sept. 17: distributor

The South Korean box-office hit "Assassination," an ode to Korean independence fighters during Japan's colonial rule of Korea (1910-1945), will open in Chinese cinemas on Sept. 17, its local distributor said Monday.

Prior to the film's release in China, actors Lee Jung-jae and Ha Jung-woo, and director Choi Dong-hoon, will visit Chinese cities on Sept. 7-8 to promote the film, the distributor, Showbox, said.

In South Korea, the film starring Lee, Ha and Jun Ji-hyun, the heroine of the mega-hit TV series “My Love from the Star," drew more than 12.19 million viewers as of Sunday, becoming the eighth most viewed Korean film ever.

The movie has already been screened in North America, including New York, Los Angeles and Seattle, since Aug. 7.
