South Korean trot singer Lee Mi-ja will hold a concert in Japan next month to mark the 70th anniversary of Korean liberation from Japan's colonial rule in 1945, a news report said Wednesday.

The concert, free of charge, will be held at Hibiya Kokaido, a 2,000-seat outdoor theater, in Tokyo, the Yonhap news agency reported, quoting a source close to the singer.

Mindan, a pro-South Korean residents' group in Japan, invited the 74-year-old trot singer to perform at Hibiya Kokaido on Aug. 15, the report said. Trot is the oldest form of Korean pop music.

Lee, who debuted in 1959, became the first South Korean singer to perform in North Korea in 2003.
