Hollywood blockbuster "Terminator Genisys" topped the South Korean box office over the weekend (between Friday and Sunday), attracting 1,238,551 viewers, the country's official box-office tracker said on Monday.

"Battle of Yeonpyeong," a South Korean film depicting a bloody inter-Korean naval skirmish 13 years ago, came in second with 997,068 moviegoers, according to the Korean Film Council (KOFIC).

"Terminator Genisys," the fifth installment in the “Terminator” series, has taken the No. 1 spot since its release Thursday, dethroning "Battle of Yeonpyeong" which had topped the local box-office charts for eight straight days since its opening on June 24.

Third place went to dinosaur action flick "Jurassic World," which drew 352,810 viewers.

"The Classified File," a South Korean film based on a 33-day kidnapping case in the southeastern port city of Busan in 1978, ranked fourth with 199,203 moviegoers, followed by South Korean movie "Minority Opinion" with 36,443 tickets sold and German animated film "Coconut the Little Dragon" (26,367).
