Samsung Electronics' share in mobile DRAM market soars to 52.1% in Q1

Samsung Electronics' share in the global mobile DRAM (dynamic random access memory) market soared by 6 percentage points to 52.1 percent in the first quarter from 46.1 percent in the previous quarter, a semiconductor market research firm said Wednesday.

Its South Korean compatriot SK hynix, however, saw its share plunge by 5.1 percentage points to 22.9 percent in the January-March period from 28 percent in the previous quarter, according to DRAM eXchange.

Micron Group came in third with a 22.6 percent share, down 0.7 percentage point from the fourth quarter of 2014. U.S.-based Micron Technology acquired Japan's Elpida Memory in 2013.

Taiwan's Nanya came in a distant fourth with a 1.4 percent share, down 0.4 percentage point from the October-December period, while its compatriot Winbond maintained its market share unchanged at 0.9 percent.
