A period drama starring actress Lee Young-ae, who is known for the 2003 hit Korean TV series "Daejanggeum (Jewel in the Palace)," will air in the first half of next year, its production company said Wednesday.

The company, Group Eight, said it has recently fixed the broadcasting schedule of the drama, titled "Saimdang, the Herstory," with SBS. "We're doing pre-production work with the aim of broadcasting "Saimdang" simultaneously in South Korea, China and Japan in the first half of 2016," it said.

The filming of the drama will begin in July, it said.

"Saimdang" depicts the life of Shin Saimdang (1504-1551), the mother of Yulgok, a prominent Confucian scholar of Korea's Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910).

A 44-year-old, Lee halted her career after starring in Park Chan-woo's crime thriller film "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance (2005)." In 2009, Lee married Jeong Ho-young, a Korean-American businessman. She gave birth to twins, one boy and one girl, in 2011.
