S. Korea prepares for Buddha's Birthday

CHILD MONKS: A child, right, sheds tears after having his head shaved at Jogye Temple in central Seoul on Monday during the "Children Becoming Buddhist Monks" ceremony held ahead of the 2,559th Buddha's Birthday which falls on May 25 according to the Lunar Calendar. A survey of 1,500 people aged 18 or older nationwide, which was conducted by Gallup Korea in April and May 2014, showed that 22 percent of respondents were Buddhists, down 2 percentage points from a decade earlier. Twenty-one and 7 percent were Protestants and Catholic believers, respectively - both remained almost unchanged.
