Confidence among South Korean consumers rose in April, the central bank said Friday.

The country's composite consumer sentiment index (CCSI) for April stood at 104, up three points from the previous month, the Bank of Korea (BOK) said, based on a survey of  2,026  households nationwide conducted between April 10 and 17. A CCSI above 100 indicates that consumers’ subjective expectations as to the economic situation are more positive than the past (2003-2014) average, and one below 100 that they are more negative.

BOK officials said that the government's stimulus plans, the improvement of economic indices and robust transactions in the property and stock markets helped boost consumer sentiment.

The results of the survey also include:

― Consumer sentiments on current living standards and for their future outlook were both two points higher than in March, at 92 and 100, respectively.

― Consumer sentiment regarding current domestic economic conditions was up by five points compared to March at 77, and that for their future outlook was higher by three points at 91.

― Consumer sentiment on prospective changes in household income was two points above that during the month before at 101, while that on expected spending remained unchanged at 106.

― The expectation for inflation over the following year was 2.5 percent.
