Operatic pop (popera) tenor Lim Hyung-joo Wednesday donated 57 million won worth of proceeds from his hit, "A Thousand Winds," dedicated to the victims of the Sewol ferry sinking.

Lim made the donation to the Community Chest of Korea during his visit to the charity organization's office in central Seoul, and signed applications to join the Honor Society, a club of donors operated by the group. He became the 800th member of the club.

Dedicating the song to the Sewol victims last year, Lim pledged to donate all proceeds from it.

Thursday (April 16, 2015) marked the first anniversary of the Sewol tragedy in which more than 300 people, mostly school children, lost their lives.

Memorial events were held nationwide Thursday in memory of the 304 victims.

Since its foundation in 2007, the society has money from its members to help the underprivileged. Celebrities, who are members of the club, include K-pop girl group miss A member Suzy, entertainer Hyunyoung, actor Kim Bo-sung, actress Suae, singer Hyunsook, Girls' Generation member Yuna and pop diva Insooni.
