Of the company's total 1,219 unregistered executives, 177, or 14.5 percent quit their jobs, according to reports Samsung filed with the Financial Supervisory Service, the country's financial regulator. The figure is higher than 104 executives who vacated their posts a year earlier.
Of the 177 who left the company, 44 or 24.9 percent belonged to the company's IM (IT & mobile communications) unit. The division saw its profit plunge 64 percent to 1.96 trillion won on-year in the fourth quarter largely because of what British market research firm Canalys called "the incredible popularity" of Apple Inc.'s iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
Samsung is stepping up global marketing for its new flagship Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge smartphones to regain a dominant share of the mass handset market. The smartphones will go on sale worldwide on April 10.
