LG to launch new flagship G4 smartphone in late April: sources

LG Electronics plans to launch its next flagship smartphone, G4, on its home turf in late April in an apparent bid to take on Samsung Electronics' new flagship Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge smartphones, industry sources said Friday. The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge handsets will go on sale worldwide April 10.

The plan comes after the G3 smartphone, its predecessor, showed an impressive performance. Aided by robust sales of the G3, worldwide shipments of LG handsets reached an all-time high of 59.6 million units in 2014, up 25.2 percent from 47.6 million shipped in the previous year. The figure represents nearly three-fold increase from 20.2 million units in 2011.
