Ultra high-definition (UHD) TVs will account for more than 10 percent of the global TV market this year, a market research firm said Wednesday.

Sales of UHD TVs will reached 30,580,000 units or 13 percent of the total TV sales worldwide, DisplaySearch said.

The figure nearly triples 11,670,000 units, or 5 percent of the total TVs sold last year.

UHD TV sales grew faster than expected. In the third quarter, the market researcher forecast that global UHD TV sales would reach 29,900,000 units in 2014.

Last year, Samsung Electronics had a whopping 34.3 percent share of the global UHD TV market, a three-fold rise from 11.9 percent in the previous year.

Another South Korean tech giant LG Electronics said it has set a goal of grabbing a market share of 20 percent or more this year.
