S. Korea ranks 27th in social conflict management among 34 OECD nations

South Korea ranked 27th among 34 OECD member states in a social conflict management index published by a government-funded think tank. OECD stands for the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development. 

As of 2011, the country scored 0.380 point, higher than 0.354 for Slovakia, 0.340 for Poland, 0.281 for Italy, 0.247 for Hungary, 0.206 for Greece and 0.151 for Turkey, according to the index compiled by the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs (KIHASA), a think tank under the Office of the Prime Minister. Mexico was at the bottom of the list with 0.068.

Portugal came in 26th with 0.406.  

Denmark took the top spot with 0.923, followed by Sweden (0.866), Finland (0.859) and the Netherlands (0.846).

The comparable figure stood at 0.677 for Britain, 0.616 for France, 0.569 for Japan, 0.546 for the United States, 0.429 for the Czech Republic and 0.408 for Slovenia. 

When it comes to the institute's social conflict index, South Korea placed fifth among 24 OECD nations surveyed, after Turkey, Greece, Chile and Italy. 

The results were published in the March issue of the institute's journal Health & Welfare Forum.
