Chinese arrivals in Jeju Island jump 58% in 2014

The number of Chinese visitors to South Korea's southern resort island of Jeju jumped nearly 60 percent last year from a year ago, industry data showed Tuesday.

An estimated 2,860,000 Chinese tourists visited Jeju in 2014, up 58 percent from 1,810,000 in the previous year, according to the data compiled by the Jeju Tourism Organization.

They accounted for 46.7 percent of the total Chinese arrivals in South Korea last year, up 4.9 percentage points from 41.8 percent in 2013.

South Korea offers visa-free access to Jeju for Chinese tourists.

The number of Chinese arrivals in the country soared 41.6 percent to 6,127,000 in 2014 from a year ago, the data said.
