Hyundai Motor's Accent retained the best seller title in China's small-sized car market in January, industry sources said Friday.

The Accent, called Verna in the Chinese market, sold 26,515 units last month, they said.

The Accent became the best-selling subcompact in the Chinese market for the first time in 2014 with 236,024 units sold, edging out Shanghai GM's Sail.

In January, Sail placed third with sales reaching 19,100 vehicles, after Shanghai Volkswagen's Polo which sold 21,014 units.

The Accent topped a durability test in the category of small-sized cars sold in the Chinese market, which was conducted by JD Power in 2014.
