South Koreans ate 74.1 units of ramyon (instant noodles), called in ramen in Japan, per person a year on average, the world's highest, the government reported on Friday.

Vietnamese ranked second with a yearly per-capital ramyon consumption of 60.3 units, followed by Indonesians with 57.3 units, according to the report of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

The report is based on a survey of 15 countries conducted by the Japan-based World Instant Noodles Association (www.instantnoodles.org) last year, the ministry said.

China, including Hong Kong, was the world's largest ramyon-consuming country with about 46 trillion units sold, followed by Indonesia (14.9 trillion servings), Japan and Vietnam (5.2 trillion units), the report said. South Korea, with some 3.6 trillion servings, placed seventh.

In South Korea, Nongshim Co.'s Shin Ramyon took the No. 1 spot as the best-selling ramyon brand for the fourth consecutive year in 2013, followed by Nongshim Chapagetti, Nongshim Ansung Tangmyon, Nongshim Neoguri and Samyang Foods Co.'s Samyang Ramyon.

Nongshim is the country's largest processed food manufacturer, specializing in instant noodles and snacks.
