The Korea Grand Sale 2015 opened on Monday with about 28,000 outlets, including department stores, duty-free shops, hotels, large retailers, shopping malls and performance halls, participating.

The annual event, South Korea's largest sales/tourism festival, will continue through Feb. 22 next year, the organizer said.

Discounts of up to 70 percent will be available at the participating outlets in Seoul, Busan, Jeju Island and Gyeonggi, Gangwon, North Gyeongsang and North Chungcheong provinces, the organizer, Visit Korea Committee, said.

As part of its programs, a "welcome event" took place at local areas and six airports nationwide, including Incheon, Gimpo, Gimhae, Yangyang, Cheongju and the southern resort island of Jeju, it said.

A "photo zone" for foreign tourists was established at Incheon International Airport, South Korea's main gateway to the outside world.
