Over 1,000 journalists from 18 nations to cover South Asian summit in Nepal

Nepal government officials said on Thursday that 700 Nepali journalists and 276 ones from other countries have registered to cover the 18th SAACC Summit which will be held in Nepal's capital city Kathmandu in late November. SAARC stands for South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation.

Laxmi Bilas Koirala, director general of the Department of Information under the Ministry of Information and Communication, told Xinhua news agency that they have received 1,148 online applications till 4 p.m. (local time) on Thursday, the deadline for the media accreditation application.

Laxmi said that the true applicants would be less than this number because of repeat application.

According to the department, except Nepal, the host nation, India has 106 applicants for the two-day summit, the most one among SAARC member states. There are 102 applicants from Bangladesh, 17 from Afghanistan, 15 from Sri Lanka, six each from Pakistan and Maldives, and two from Bhutan.
