"Xiaomi will surpass Apple and Samsung within the next 5-10 years," the CEO, Lei Jun, said, while speaking at the first World Internet Conference in Wuzhen town in Tongxiang, east China's Zhejiang province, according to www.brg.com. The three-day conference ended Friday.
Xiaomi has sold more than 60 million smartphones this year. That number is expected to rise to 100 million next year, BRG said.
Xiaomi, founded in 2010, moved up two notches to third place in November from fifth place four months earlier in the industry.
"The rate of growth is incredibly impressive," BRG said. However, it remains to be seen whether the Xiaomi line can knock off the Galaxys and iPhones, it added.
